Student loans have tons of recourse before a debt goes to collection- deferment up to 3 years, income based repayment, re-structured payment plans, and settlements that are sometimes 20% the size of the debt. When something has gone as far as collections and no one has settled it, its been YEARS since the loan was paid. I get that life gets in the way, but to quit a job because you’re heart broken at the idea that someone who has kids didn’t pay their debt (also, she didn’t specify if it was student loans) isn’t from empathy or compassion. No one asked her to harass, berate, or judge the debtors- just call them up and see if they’re ready to pay or settle. And that was too much?

Maybe someone will call her in a few years asking why she hasn’t paid her loans and she can explain it was because she was too sensitive for the job that paid the bills.
