Ah, yes, we also had a DC trainer. I never sampled it myself, but watched the guys straggle out, like drowned rats. Of course, being San Diego, it wasn’t an unpleasant experience for the most part. Unlike, say, New London/Groton, in the winter. Ouch! Trying to get those bulky, balky clamps around a pipe jetting freezing water at you in the dark — no thanks!

Hubby was NECEP, but he too trained in Groton back in the early 70's. Experienced his first nor’easter, ended up on a boomer out of Pearl. Anywhere but there. AWEPS, he was the big guy crawling around under the missiles, doing PM’s and inspections. Hoping those red tags didn’t fall off, while staring at the bottom of the Poseidon right over his head.

And yes, I remember those reams of green bar. The 21C7 had just been upgraded to a ‘modern’ Honeywell computer, and it had a dot matrix, state of the art, blazing fast printer. Why, I could print out a page of code every 10 minutes!! Be still my beating heart!

Anyway, back out to water the rest of the garden. I saw that your pond now has a flotilla of rocks, perfect for hopscotch. You must try it and let me know how badly Deb beats you at it.

Peace in, brothah Jack…
