Because with me, I treat recipes more as guidelines, I would try other liquids if you’re not doing coffee. A good porter, maybe? I did try it once with wine.

So long as you have a total of 4 cups of liquid, most anything might work for the 1 cup of coffee. But of course, then it wouldn’t be Cowboy Coffee stew now, would it?
