There is no need to fear death.

Life is a continuum that began with the divine creation of our souls and continues its transcendence with the goal of self-realization and the union back with the creator. However, this concept is little understood in our western society were the belief of a single lifetime makes death an event to be feared. How many of our friends openly talk about death? Not many, it is a distressing topic plagued with the uncertainty of what is next.

What is death?

All human beings go through the transitional process we call death. During death the soul and the consciousness pass from one plane of being into another.[i] The physical body systems shut down and start the process of disintegration while the soul moves on into the next stage in life continuum.

Why do I need to know about karma and reincarnation?

The teachings on karma and reincarnation are key to understanding the cycle of death. The masters teach that as the body ages and the opportunity of that lifetime comes to an end, the soul sheds the old shell and moves to the next step within the life-stream plan. The laws of karma and reincarnation state that it takes multiple embodiments to balance karma and gain mastery on earth before soul liberation could be achieved.[ii] Therefore death, like birth, are part of the cycles of the soul while they sojourn on earth.

What is karma?

Karma is energy. It is God’s energy in action supplied perennially through life.[iii] This live-giving energy is qualified daily by us through actions, thoughts, decisions, and interactions. In the original cosmic plan man was charged to take dominion of the earth, perfect the soul by living a moral life and return to the Father. However, man was also given free will and with that all kind of options for which the choices have not always being optimal. It is through this process of choosing, acting, thinking, loving, hating that we use the karmic energy and qualify it either positively or negatively. The ongoing challenge is that any negative karma created needs to be transformed back to positive; again, by correcting actions, thoughts, feelings, etc.

Reincarnation: Is one life enough to correct all wrongs?

Reincarnation is defined by the Oxford Dictionary as the rebirth of a soul in a new body.[iv] As part of the Eastern religions, it is the doctrine that states that a soul needs multiple lifetimes to be able to balance karma, master life and achieve union with the Source (achieving Nirvana in Buddhism).[v] Therefore karma and reincarnation are linked together with the law of karma driving the cycles of rebirth.

In the book “Reincarnation: The Missing Link in Christianity”, Elizabeth C. Prophet writes:

“Reincarnation is opportunity — both to learn from our mistakes on earth and to pursue God. It is the key to understanding our soul’s journey.”[vi]

Therefore, all our experiences are conditions and situations that provide opportunities to amend and the power to make right choices.

But we still die, what happens then?

When our body no longer sustains life, the soul transitions from matter to spirit with a succession of events that follow. First our soul goes through a life review by a board of divine intercessors[vii] and is assigned to a level according to the karma and deeds accumulated in the sum of previous embodiments.[viii]

Souls who have made positive progress are assigned to one of the levels of higher vibration while those who lag in progress are then assigned to a level of lower vibration. From these levels we get ready for our next embodiment. And so, the cycle of soul growth in the life continuum continues. The key is within us. How fast we progress is always dependent on the choices we make through our free will.

Free will?

Free will is central for soul growth, it is the gift of liberty to experiment on earth. God bestowed mankind with free will to make us creators in this world. Karma is the result of free will. How we use the God-given energy sets in motion the circumstances in our lives.

So, what should I take to heart?

Life is a continuum, a cycle, a spiral between material and spiritual stages that are divinely designed for the growth and the transcendence of the soul. Death is not an end but a continuation in the cycle. It is like the time at the end of the school year when we have a break before moving into the next grade.

We must remember to keep our eye on the goal of soul liberation: the ascension. This is the ritual whereby the soul reunites with the Spirit of the living God. [ix]

As we attune to God, we must also ask for the help of the ascended masters*. These Beings of Light support us in the balancing of karma, in the focusing on what is important, and in living a life of service that will lead us to the end of a cycle that moves us towards the path of the ascension.

* An ascended master is one who, through Christ and the putting of that Mind that was in Christ Jesus, has mastered time and space.[x]
