Day 35: As Real As It Gets

This past month has been an eye opener for me.

Here’s what I’ve realized: the less you care about about what people think about you, the more effective you become.

Not only that, but you also have more friends, and have a ton of fun in the process.

People don’t want some shiny, polished, plastic Stepford wife who stays silent, and chooses her words carefully.

People want someone who can be loyal, honest, and transparent. Even better, people want someone they can ugly cry around, and discuss which brand of dry shampoo is the greatest.

This year is shaping up to be amazing.

The connections and friendships I’ve created, are so awesome.

We aren’t sitting around gossiping. We’re doing wonderful, meaningful things.

I need them more than ever. My life currently has a lot of moving pieces. There is no way I can do this on my own. These ladies are not only willing to support me, they are willing to (sometimes literally) get their hands dirty.

Here is a snapshot of the highlights in my life right now:

Tomorrow, SewLoved is having its initial meeting. I get to meet with women (no, no. Superheroes), that have the talents to help execute this project. That is SO COOL! Also, We have reached out to our program contact for the Greenville Hospital System to see what their needs are. We want to see if we can partner with them as well. We want to meet with them before the end of February.

Also, at work, we are priming to launch our website before the week is out. Prom season has begun. It’s the Super Bowl of our alterations world. During its peak, STA completes 100–150 dresses per week. I have no idea how.

As far as the garden CSA, we have a tiller to use, and we will be prepping the soil, and planting seedlings indoors, by next Friday. I want a chance to meet with someone at the Clemson extension office on Wednesday, so I can pick their brain and get expert advice.

So, these are my three major projects right now. I try to do at least one next step for each goal per day.

And, I have the best husband and child in the world. They give me lots of hugs and kisses, and make me want to keep trying and moving forward.

What’s been the key piece to our improvements, I think, is that we start the day together with our morning devotionals, and end it together with dinner as a family.

We finally found the primary doctor that we like for Sam. She’s fantastic, and referred us to do some genetic testing for our little guy. I got a call yesterday saying I should be getting more calls in the next couple weeks for other referrals. The waiting list is super long for developmental testing and we set the appointment for the earliest possible date, which is this summer. That’s ok though, because he’s continuing to improve.

Also, Wil’s back is about 80% better than it was a month ago. He’s been going to physical therapy twice a week and doing the exercises they prescribe in between visits. I’m super proud of him and his progress.

I haven’t heard back from my doctor about my biopsy. But it hasn’t been a week yet, and I’m hoping when I go back there for my follow up next week, they will say everything looks awesome, have a nice day!

As an interesting coincidence, the doctor that did my biopsy, is the same one that delivered Jennifer’s (my SewLoved sidekick) baby a few months ago. That’s why she knew about our project when I asked her for info. Jennifer had asked her about it. I thought that was an interesting coincidence.

Welp. That’s about it. Everything else is about the same.
