If someone cannot take feedback constructively and fails to see the damage they’ve caused (are continuing to cause), perhaps they are more suited for some type of independent research instead of working at an organization where collaboration, reporting and timelines are essential.

Sure, Rick was talented, but that star seems to have worn off in light of other essentials that were part of the job.

I am an elementary school teacher, and often my students and I discuss who they would like to work with: someone who always receives As on their assignments and always has the greatest ideas OR someone who understands the problem, can explain it and is fun to work with.

No surprise, they always choose the latter!
