Creative and detailed view of ONE problem with the ticketing industry. But I’m intrigued by the glossover of “We’ll never get rid of bots.”

Why not? Isn’t it the bots that are allowing whatever small number of tickets that do get put “on sale to the public” to disappear in a matter of seconds or sometimes, minutes? Why aren’t the ticketing companies -like the one you were the CEO of – invest more of those service charges into technology to keep out the bots?

And an artist as big as U2 can certainly gauge demand for the best seats/experiences in each market and dynamically price the tickets.

Instead Ticketmaster, and the thousands of artists it represents, continues to perpetrate the romantic but utterly false vision of true fans still being able to camp out all night and be first in line to get the best seats for their favorite musician. Yet in reality, they stack the deck for the bots by refusing to sell tickets at the box office of the venue until at least 24 hours after the bots have had their opportunity to suck every last ticket out of the system.

Vegas and the gambling industry has managed to keep the bots and hackers at bay, because they are financially motivated to do so. Ticketmaster has no such incentive…and thus doesn’t care who or what is on the other end of the order.
