I agree that Uber’s business model is fraught with problems. But let’s look a little further ahead. The core innovation is knowing where the vehicle is and being able to pay without friction. Taxi services and public transit can also use these techniques to make their services more attractive and accessible. Disrupting existing taxi and public transit monopolies is not a bad thing. If we do look ahead, we can see that Uber will be increasingly subject to regulation that will address its shortfalls. At the same time, we can anticipate taxi and public transit services to eventually adapt to be more competitive. Choice is good… eventually.
