I quite liked your post because you tried to put the topic of Brexit to another level, namely if referenda should be held in general which is an interesting question.
Maybe the Brexit-referendum was a too complicated issue for the whole population, elderly and young, also because the consequences of leaving the EU are not clear at the moment (well, it seems like the future won’t be that nice..). It can be seen as a statement that only about one third of the young people of 18 to 30 (?) made use of their right to vote. Were they too lazy or didn’t they really understand the importance? We will not be able to answer this question, but I am sure that many political “forces” in Europe want to fight for a referendum in their country.
