Getting Mixpanel alias() and identify() Right

There is plenty of documentation about Mixpanel identity management and how to use the alias() and identify() methods correctly. Still, I see many startups get the implementation wrong and thoroughly messing up their metrics.

I found the following slide with just three do’s and don’ts from a Mixpanel video tutorial quite helpful:

That’s basically it. Make sure you alias() a user exactly once when they create an account, i.e. map Mixpanel’s built-in client-side distinct_id to your own server-side user ID. And then identify them every time they log in from any device.
