I think this is an important idea you’ve pointed out. The more of us that are aware of such a fact, the more capable we become as a species of overcoming problems that arrive because of it.
It raises an important problem in my mind with regards to the current technology and knowledge landscape: we give away information and knowledge for free and allow corporate entities to monopolize ownership. They in turn keep their findings private, avoiding the established pattern of sharing and allowing dissemination of that information, which should enable others to build on it. How can such a pattern remain sustainable, and what can we do to break out of it?
