I so get this. I once bought a house because it had an attic fan- this big fan mounted in the ceiling that would pull air through all open windows so that even in Houston, a hot day could at least be a hot day with air moving around. I figured that when we had the inevitable electricity loss due to hurricane we would at least be able to have a warm breeze to enjoy.

Hurricane came. Electricity went out. No problem. Except the attic fan expected some electricity for maximum efficiency.
