Unbelievable! 10,649,600 cores + 15MW = 125,435.9 TFlop/s Rpeak

The most powerful computing system

I haven’t checked the Top500 list in a long time, I just did it after reading this very interesting article:

1.1 Billion Taxi Rides on kdb+/q & 4 Xeon Phi CPUs

The amount of cores and performance available in the number one system is just unbelievable:

Sunway TaihuLight - Sunway MPP, Sunway SW26010 260C 1.45GHz, Sunway

Although the overall performance increased a lot from last year:

The total performance of all 500 computers on the list is now 672 petaflops, a 60 percent increase from a year ago.

We are still far from an exascale system:

… the only other system on the list equipped with the new P100 GPUs. It is a 3.3-petaflop cluster of DGX-1 servers that delivers 9.46 gigaflops/watt. To offer some perspective here, the nominal goal for the first exascale systems is 50 gigaflops/watt.

I hope they are used mainly to solve stringent world problems.
