From NBA Ball-girl to CMO…

Often when I meet with college students and young professionals they always ask, “How did you do it?”, “What specific steps did you take to get where you are?”, “I want to be a Chief Marketing Officer for an NBA team, what should I do?”… the truth is I have NO clue!

I still don’t know what I want to be when I grow up.

I never planned to be CMO of the Atlanta Hawks. The only goal I set was in high school to be the first female coach of an NBA team…but I never actually played basketball. Not sure how that one was gonna work out, but that goal did result in me becoming the first ball-girl (aka team attendant) for the Miami Heat — check the article below.

The journey that follows has many twists and turns, with a TON of lessons learned along the way. Each time I’m asked the “How did I do it?” question, my answer is the same. I have been and will continue to be open to whatever the universe has in store for me. That doesn’t mean sitting by idly waiting for things to happen. I get after it! Every. Damn. Day. Taking on tasks no one else wants to do, speaking with others and sharing my story every chance I get, working hard, going above and beyond, constantly seeking to learn and grow while being open to change and new opportunities.

Today is the 1st day of 2017 and I had the honor of being included on Inc.’s list of 17 inspiring women to watch in 2017. A chance meeting with an amazing woman resulted in me being on this list and the decision to start sharing my story here. (Thanks Lisa!)

Everyone’s journey is different and what worked for me, may not work for you…but as my mummy always told me “nothing beats a trial but a failure”. Every week my commitment to you is to share something that helped me on this crazy journey. I promise it will be entertaining.

2017 let’s do this… Get hype!
