ART & SOUL: Hamptons Sells Out All Events in its Return to the Hamptons

Brenda Simmons, Executive Director of the Southampton African American Museum

The Hamptons hosted a soulful event on May 27, 2023, which consisted of four events attended by artists, art curators, collectors, business owners, executives, entrepreneurs, and the cultural elite. The creation of ART & SOUL: Hamptons celebrated the work of BIPOC artists living in and around the Hamptons. Throughout the series of events, curators, collectors, and supporters of art are supported and connected.

The Southampton African American Museum (SAAM) inaugurated the Art Walk on the first weekend of summer. Until July 22, 2023, Demarcus McGaughey, an internationally renowned contemporary artist, will reside at SAAM. Our second stop on the art walk was the Southampton Arts Center (SAC), where A MOMENT IN TIME: ICONIC IMAGES BY HARRY BENSON will be on display through July 15, 2023. As a final stop, the art walk ended at Hidden Gem NY, a home decor and lifestyle boutique owned by sisters Tanya Willock and Temidra Willock-Morsch.

In honor of ART & SOUL, 75 MAIN hosted a sold out brunch on its private outdoor patio. The Hamptons’ and New York’s most socially connected Black and Brown women attended a special presentation by Demarcus McGaughy, who presented to guests his limited edition print of his uncle John Crenshaw’s picture ‘Cool Cat’, a mix media collage print. Demarcus created the original painting during a residency at Ma’s House & BIPOC Art Studio on the Shinnecock Reservation in Fall 2022.

An art exhibition was held at Raindrop’s Cafe, a cozy event venue operated by Shinnecock Indian Nation members. Alvin Clayton-Fernandes, Errin Whitaker, Tohanash Tarrant, and Kim Wright were some of the featured artists. All of the artists were present in a space filled with a rich history of the Shinnecock Tribe’s contribution to the Hamptons.

As part of Raindrop’s Café’s sipping experience, Ettore Wine (from California) sponsored a wine bar, SOVANY provided flavored sparkling water, and Poppin Patties sponsored delicious Native American bites. VBA the Media Group sponsored a 360 camera and LED light photo booth for guests to enjoy.

Also, guests were given the opportunity to take home a variety of luxury swag bags. A number of sponsors have contributed to the luxury gift bags, including Borghese, StriVection, EVE LOM, CAUDALIE, BIONOVA, Imperial DAX Company, Andrew Fitzsimons, NatureLab Tokyo, Daily Dose, SELECT by Curaleaf, Wendy Williams Med Spa & IV Drip Bar, and SOVANY.
