Very interesting piece. Though AV’s may not be ready for interaction with human driven vehicles it seems that if an AV only zone was created they could be deployed for low speed work now. In San Francisco , when there is a convention at Moscone center, the city could cone off a lane from the convention center to the hotels. AV’s could safely transport people back and forth. For a first attempt perhaps there would still be a passive driver. A promotional event like that would really warm the public to AV’s. In the future perhaps the business district is eventually AV only. Of course, there would be a large political issue to get around since I assume there would be opposition.

I am curious if you see such early deployments in the offing or we will to wait for more advanced level 4 automation.
