I’m a freelancer on Upwork. It took me months to land the first job and many more months of hard work and low pay to land a few more in order to build up a reputation. Now I have a good feedback history and new clients know they can trust me. What I almost always struggle with are clients not willing to pay me a fair price for my work. They want excellent work, great reputation, all the guarantees in the world, but don’t want to pay anything. And that’s exactly the issue here. You were lured in by a super cheap offer by someone with no work history on Upwork, because you were hoping for a bargain. I’m sure if you had hired someone with good feedback offering a more realistic wage, you would not have been scammed.
