my dad was a bartender/bar owner…he stayed open on christmas eve and christmas day…it’s where he’d be anyway, even if he didn’t own a bar…he wasn’t able to handle a “normal” family gathering…but i like the essence of your thought…a safe and fun place to go for those with no where to go…however, maybe heather’s story is more the reality of it…
