Molly Burke ❤

So some of you may have heard of her, but I wanted to take a moment to talk about a youtuber, and motivational speaker that I really love. Her name is Molly Burke. She’s 25 years old, from the Greater Toronto area in Canada, and she currently lives in L.A., with her mom, and guide dog. Her superpower is blindness.

When she was little she could see shapes, though she’s been legally blind all her life. When she was about 14 she lost all of her sight to retinitis pigmentosa (RP) and currently only sees some light and shadows.

She’s been a youtuber for the past 5 years or so sharing her story as a blind girl. She talks about what it was like for when she was a young girl with the limited vision she had, what she went through as a young teen losing her vision, going through depression and bullying, losing her friends and as the young women she is today in my opinion, thriving in the world. She shares her life, and her journey.

Some of what she shares may seem oddly basic to some people, but I absolutely love what I learn from her about the blind community, the sighted community, the disabled community and the able-bodied community. There are many obstacles she has to jump which I never would’ve realized without her and the awareness she brings me and many others. She often does videos of how she goes about doing things, like buying clothes at stores, or buying things online and she shares things about her guide dog Gallop, and throughout that all shows us her conquering of a world that isn’t easily accessibly for her and people who may be diagnosed with the same disease, amongst many other videos.

I absolutely love her overcoming of the darkness she felt and went through when she lost her sight, and what she’s been able to make of her life. She lives life to the fullest and is an empowering female for our generation to watch and find inspiration from. She’s also a standing example of someone who survived, found and adapted to what life gave her, and though it’s sometimes incredibly hard for her, she wouldn’t change a thing. She wouldn’t ask for a cure. She’s a fighter and she speaks for those who can’t always speak for themselves or don’t have the platform to do so. She’s a beautiful human that I wanted to share, and I hope you guys go check her out on Youtube.
