Maui, Hawaii

In this project were were instructed to highlight a cross section of a community. I recently had the privilege of traveling to Maui and wanted to highlight their tight knit, inviting community. Maui is a small 26.1 mile wide island but the culture, pride, and beauty she holds makes it seem so much bigger.

In my project I aimed to showcase the light and happiness that encompasses Maui. I wanted to keep it very light and bright, while bringing together different aspects of the island as a whole. Even though Maui isn’t my community the island makes you feel as if you are a part, as if you are at home.

The main theme I wanted to portray was light. I wanted the pictures to feel enhanced by light or have it be the subject. Light shapes the way you think and interpret things and in this case pictures. I want the viewer to be left with a positive and bright image of Maui (how could you not?), them being able to picture themselves in a happy place. Maui.
