This week, 24 years ago, US President Ronald Reagan penned his now-famous letter to the American people announcing his diagnosis of Alzheimer’s. His letter marked the end of a larger-than-life public life and the beginning of a personal battle with a horrible disease, which robs us of our dignity and independence, steals our most precious memories, destroys lives and devastates millions of families.

By sharing their deepest fears and pain, Ronald and Nancy hoped to build awareness and lift the stigma of an Alzheimer’s diagnosis. …
