In person drop: A Whole new experience
I am really inspired by this quote of Albert Einstein in which he says that “The only source of knowledge is experience.” We learn a lot of things theoretically in our schools and universities but, what we can learn through applying them is something we will never be able to learn through our courses. We can understand them more deeply when we apply our knowledge practically. When we jump into our practical life many people face new challenges and experiences. Their vision gets broader, they develop more confidence, they meet new people and their personality gets more groomed.

I have joined Amal Fellowship two months earlier and the most beautiful thing about this career prep program is that we have to apply everything practically either we are learning interview skills or we are preparing ourselves for job haunting. In this week we were taught about the in-person drop which is basically a face to face meeting with HR of that company in which you are interested or which is related to your major subject. So, after completing the course we were supposed to visit the HR manager of any company to get an experience. The purpose of this activity was to develop confidence, facing new experience and to apply knowledge practically.
After completely the course it was a major problem for me to select the organization in which I could go and meet the HR manager. My major subject is Human Nutrition and Dietetics and I had a choice to go to multiple hospitals. By chance I got a chance to visit Rawalpindi, Islamabad with my family for two days. So, I thought I must go to Military Hospital, Rawalpindi to give CV for internship program. The problem was that I didn’t have any idea who is the HR manager of Military Hospital so, my father called one of his friend who was a retired major from army and he said that I will take you there. So, I went to the hospital and one of the army man took us to the office of colonel Shahid Randhawa. I greet him and gave him a brief elevator pitch. He asked me some questions for example why you want to work here, why did you choose us etc. He asked me question about my major subjects and said that he will consider my application and will let me know if there is any vacant post announced for internship.
During the meeting I observed that even though he was very busy but, still he gave me some time and he was really happy that I am passionate about my work. He asked me question and also answered some of my questions as well.
At last I would conclude by adding up that until or unless I was not exposed to the outside environment I had no idea what kind of hardships I can face but when my efforts were successful I appreciated myself as my experience gave me new way of exploring myself.
