The ‘Alfa’ Attack Submarine Was Ahead of Its Time

Nice article. Growing up with “Hunt” and “Red Storm,” got me hooked on naval design early. For some reason I thought the Russian Nukes were sodium cooled, not lead. Wiki says the article is correct, a Lead-Bismuth reactor was used. It also indicates that that particular combination is highly corrosive.

High Tech indeed, but not a long term solution for a boat that should last 30+ years. I guess towards the end, the Russian were probably not planning that far ahead.
