HP Laserjet 1010 plug and print driver installation on Windows 10
Hello guys, in this step by step guide I will show you all how to install the basic driver for HP Laserjet 1010 on Windows 10. As the Laserjet 1010 is a very old black and white printer its windows 10 driver is unavailable on the official HP support website. You can seek driver online, but every other source gives different installation methods which can be quite confusing for you to find the right way.
Today I will show the easiest and almost guaranteed way of installation of the driver for this printer.
Note this method is also applicable to the installation of the HP Laserjet 1012 and HP Laserjet 1015 printer drivers as well.
Let's get started:
- Go to the Free printer Support website through this link, and download the basic driver for Windows 10 32-bit or 64-bit according to your system type, you can find that by right clicking on This PC icon and then going in properties to see the system type.
2. Then go in your download folder/ other destination where the zip file is downloaded and extract the file to hp-laserjet-1010-basic-driver-64bit.
3. Go to settings by clicking the Windows icon.
4. Then go to the devices in the settings, as shown in the picture.
5. Then click on the Printers & scanners.
6. Switch on and connect the printer to the USB Port of your choice, you will hear the notification sound.
7. Then click on the Add a printer or scanner.
8. Then click on The printer I want wasn't listed.
9. A new window will open, select Add a local printer … with manual setting, click Next.
10. Chose the printer port is the most import steps of the installation. First, make sure that the Use an existing port is selected and then select DOT4 from the dropdown. If the DOT4 doesn’t show up make sure the printer is on and its cable is connected to the PC/laptop. Then start from step 6 again or simply go to the previous step and come back, click on the Back arrow then come back by clicking Next button. Then click on Next button.
11. This is another critical step of the installation, so be extra careful, click the option HAVE DISK, don't click on the Windows Update at all
12. It will prompt another window called Install from Disk, Click on the Browse button.
13. Click on this Pc.
14. Select the Download folder or destination where the extracted hp-laserjet-1010-basic-driver-64bit folder is present( in step 2).
15. Double click on the laserjet-1010-basic-driver-64bit folder.
16. Open the laserjet-1010-basic-driver-64bit folder, then select and open the hpc1015w.inf file.
17. After selecting the file hpc1015w.inf file, click OK.
18. Select the hp LaserJet 1010 HB, to install the driver of HP Laserjet 1010 and click Next. Select Laserjet 1012 or HP Laserjet 1015 printers whichever you own.
19. Rename the Printer as your wish and click Next.
20. It will install the Driver and ask you about the printer sharing click on Do not share this printer.
21. This is the last step of the installation process, please first print a test page then click on Finish.
Put pages in the printer and check the test page, it should look like this. This confirms the installation of the driver was successful. if any error message like unsupported personality encountered, remove the driver and try reinstalling.
21*. If you already had the driver installed, the windows will detect it and ask you to replace it. Replace it if your current driver isn't working properly, then follow step 19.
22. Be proud of yourself and enjoy printing, do care to share the installation guide with family, friends, colleagues and other people, help them if they are struggling to install the drivers of HP Laserjet 1010, HP Laserjet 1012 and HP Laserjet 1015 printers.
