Be Interested Not Interesting
To understand the title is a little bit complex, at first instance it does not make sense that much and you might be wondering why being interested is more important than interesting. I would recommend to go through the book “How to win friends and influence people” by Dale Carnegie especially the 1st chapter. I mark the below quote from this book and this really helps in understanding the title.
“We are interested in others when they are interested in us”
There were many examples in this chapter which supports the title of the blog the best part of the chapter was about Knaphle’s story about how he was successful in selling the fuel to chain stores when he worked according to this principle.
When I read the chapter I came to know this was the point that I was missing while communicating with others, so I started to implement this in my life and the results were extremely different which were used to be. I first targeted on my father and note down the results when he came from his shop I asked to him “How was the day gone” and how many customers bought something from you. My father who was looking very tired before I asked the question,suddenly an infinite amount of energy sparked in him and he joyfully told me how the day actually gone and as we finished talking he was so happy that he ordered me to bring ice cream for everyone.
I made my next target my adviser of the project he wasn’t seem to be friendly person but I managed to apply this technique on him also, I already knew that in coming month he was going to organize the conference and he was really frustrated regarding that conference. I started to talk about the conference and started to give some tips and the next thing which happened was really astonishing for me he ordered a cup of tea for me and we had a long conversation about an hour. I was really happy that I managed to apply technique successfully and it went smoothly.
The best part of be interested is that the ultimate results will be in your favor and you could accomplish almost anything what you want. So next time make sure that you are more interested rather than interesting.
