I learnt the concept of random acts of kindness from my father. He used to say that you can make some one’s day by little small tasks. And I saw him practicing that. I too try to follow him.

Kindness is very important in team building as well. The concept of kindness was re-introduced to me by the Amal Academy. Amal Academy is Stanford University-funded venture that helps Pakistani youth develop the professional skills needed to achieve their career dreams. You can learn more about it here. At Amal, we got an assignment to do 5 random acts of kindness in next 24 hours.

I did the following acts of kindness.

1Gave lift to an old man and dropped him at his destination, though I had to go in opposite direction. Throughout the journey, I continued talking to him about his life and circumstances.

2What is the most important thing for an engineering student. You’re right, It’s attendance. My class fellow marked me absent in one class. I was so furious at him and I was thinking the ways to take revenge. In the mean time I came across this assignment. I thought about it and then I not only forgave him but also went to him to have some chit chat

3 Last night I was eating dinner in Lahore. A little boy came to me and asking for some rupees because his father was died and his mother was working in a house that’s why he start begging and leave the school. I ask him to sit here with me and offer him food instead of giving him rupees. Really he was very happy to saw my kindness and he told me about the story why he leave the school.

4While driving bike, I was following a “qingqi Rakshaw” at night. I saw that the passengers sitting at the back seat were feeling uncomfortable due to headlight of my bike. So I switched it off. I turned it on as soon as I took over the rakshaw.

5Greeted my fellows with a smile. Opened the door for few of them.

The experience was amazing. I felt the happiness. It was the real happiness not it’s illusions. When you do something without expecting any reward it helps you learn the spirit of teamwork. At any job place if you show kindness to other members, it slowly and surly help you have a better coordination. When every team member is doing something for the others, the negative vibes are automatically wiped off and team becomes a family.
