In person drop: Expectations vs. Reality

The dynamics of life are ever-changing. Methods of living are changing day by day. Same applies for the job hunting process. Although new methods of job application are being used throughout the corporate setups, dropping the resume in person has the same exponential effect. Since my graduation I dropped a few resumes in person and most of the time applied through proper channels. Yesterday, I decided to drop my application in person at DESCON Pvt. Ltd. I chose the department “Equipment and Plant” as I have worked there as an internee in 2013.

I followed the following steps:

1. Prepared the customized resume and cover letter

2. Inquired the name of the HR manager. His name is Dr. Sitwat Ali.

3. Carried out the company research and modified my skills summary as per the requirement

4. Prepared all the documents and my dress for the meeting.

I reached the DESCON at 09:00 am and my friend helped me to meet the HR Manager. I entered in the room and greeted him warmly. He responded in a very pleasant manner and offered me a seat. I introduced myself through my elevator pitch and mentioned my internship experience. He really appreciated my effort and received my resume for future consideration. I greeted him warmly in the end and dropped my resume to the specified person.

Overall it was an excellent experience for me. I learned a lot from this activity and identified weaknesses that can be removed. I can summarize the whole experience in the following points:

1. In person drop creates an enormous effect and puts you on the top of the list

2. Try to communicate in a natural way and do not make the things look like artificial.

3. Always send a thank you e-mail if you got the web address or at least make a phone call to the HR Manager

4. Whenever an opening is announced you will be given the priority during short listing

5. Try to drop your resume in your relevant fields, ti will boost the chances of securing an interview

6. Hand over your resume in an envelope and your mobile number, e-mail and house address must be mentioned on the envelope. It will help the manager to contact easily
