Wolf is a highly intelligent, powerful, gregarious, non-domesticated animal mostly found in Alaska, Russia, Canada, Asia, Ethiopia, Finland, Spain, and Africa. Apart from being a wild, fearless, savage animal wolf also has many unique human-like characteristics. Wolf is a large carnivorous mammal belonging to the Canidae family. Many people believed that wolf is the wild ancestors of domesticated dogs. According to the latest research, dogs descended approximately sixteen thousand and three hundred years ago from wolves found in an area of the zongzi river in China.

In this article, we are going to discuss why the Turkish called themselves wolves instead of all lions or why the wolf is the national animal of Turkey.

Why do Turks love a wolf instead of a lion?

Almost in every part of the world, parents usually describe a lion as an example of bravery and courage, such as My son is brave like a lion or My son is courageous like a lion, etc. but did you know that there is a country in the world (Turkey) where the wolf is described as an example of bravery and courage instead of a lion. In Turkey, people give a lot of importance to wolves and are often considered above all other animals which is why the wolf is the national animal of Turkey.

Faithful and obedient

Wolves are extremely faithful and loyal to their parents. When their parents become old, they take responsibility to take care of them and never leave them just like other animals. At an old age, the wolves didn’t hunt for themselves therefore their offsprings do the job for them. They hunt to bring the meat to their parents. This is one of the main reasons why Turks usually refer to their children as wolves instead of lions. One of the most important things only wolves does is that they never eat dead and that’s the forest king’s way of eating.

Never compromise on their freedom

Wolf is an intelligent, powerful, awesome-looking animal that never compromises its freedom and does everything for its freedom. If a wolf is caught or captured, he or she stops eating, and sleeping and prefers to die instead of leaving as a slave. You may never see a wolf in zoos or circuses as compared to tigers, lions, crocodiles elephants, etc. A wolf is an intelligent, clever, fierce animal that prefers death over its slavery.

Respect their mother and sister

Wolves are social animals that live in packs. Their packs usually comprise 8 to 15 members including alpha males and alpha females. The alpha male and alpha female are the only members that can mate and produce pups whereas other members have the job to protect and take care of the young pups. Wolves are extremely sincere to their mothers and sisters and can’t think of mating with them. Such a quality makes it separate and unique from all other animals because they know their mothers and sisters like humans.

Love their life partner

Wolf loves their life partners, never leaves or betrayed them, and is always found closer to them. They know their babies very well because they all are produced by the same parents. Similarly, babies can also easily recognize their parents because their parents are the same. Wolf is also extremely faithful to their family members and life partners and can sacrifice their lives for their family members and their beloved partners. Wolf is extremely loyal to their life partners and can’t even think of mating with another female wolf. The female loves the male the same way as the male loves.

Wolves also have a very unique way of mating, they mate for life just like humans and never leave their life partners either for better or worse, sickness or any other conditions. If a female partner leaves a male, the male will take the responsibility of raising their babies instead of mating with another partner. If anyone of the two dies then the second partner will remain at his or her death place for 3 to 4 months in the memory of his lost life partner, which is truly amazing.

Wolves packs

We all know that wolves are highly territorial and live in packs, their pack members have assigned different works. When wolves move from one place to the other, they display highly organized behavior for example during their journey the old and sick wolves remain in the front followed by a few young active members, their job is to provide first aid to the ill and old wolves. Besides these, there are some members, that are highly trained and ready to protect their packs from any attack. In the middle are the ordinary wolves while at the last is their leader who has eyes over the whole crew to check whether all the members are performing their duties. The leader is also called the alpha male or king who possesses more power and energy. There is also a lesson for us from the wolves this behavior, as they choose a better leader for themselves who can guide and protect their packs.
