Keeping Watch: Google Upgrades Nest Cameras
Google recently opened exciting new capabilities for its popular Nest home security cameras, including an garage door detection feature. These updates aim to give Nest users more control, customization, and insight into their home surroundings.
New Garage Door Detection
One of the most notable additions is the new garage door detection tool. Using advanced AI and image recognition, compatible Nest outdoor cameras can now identify when your garage door opens, closes, or remains open.
You can customize notifications so the Google Home app will alert you if the door stays open longer than a duration you specify. The alert contains a snapshot of the door and a recording if available. This allows you to check what’s happening without having to review hours of footage. Expanding Functionality
While older, first-generation Nest cameras don’t support the smart garage detection, Google has integrated them into the Home app. This long-awaited consolidation gives users simplified access to their camera controls, recordings, and activity history.
Google also now lets you download custom video clips from your Nest camera timeline. Whether you want to save an entire unusual event or snippet a funny moment, you can easily create and share tailored recordings.

And getting everyone into the holiday spirit, seasonal theme chimes for Nest doorbells make their return starting December 1st.
