In person Drop Experience

Right after completing the bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, I started job hunting here and there in different industries and organization in Lahore. I shared this idea of in person drop of resume, cover letter with my friend Zohaib to get an interview call or at least an apprenticeships in a notable organization to pursue for a good job and polish our skills. Depressed from current job market situation, he agreed at once like that he was waiting for such idea from a long time. I asked him to get his resume ready and think about the organization where we are gonna try this strategy. At the very next day he was at my door, holding his resume and CV in his right and smiling because it was going be our next adventure together. I just laughed as I haven’t even finalized my resume.

I asked my friend that its not gonna work, coz every organization have limited number of vacancies that are only advertised in news paper or through any other way. I was so downhearted as I have applied for dozen of position and there was no furtherance after an interview, number of times we can’t even have an interview call. Zohaib urges for at least giving a try for that. He quoted that “ A person who never made a mistake, never tried anything new”. He made me realize that we are gonna have a better experience of facing neglects, worst that can happen is to listen Sorry we can’t hire you.

Finally, I agreed to carry out the plan. First organization we decided to give a try was telecommunication company Ufone, We search the ufone website, get the other information through linkedIn, twitter , facebook etc. Ufone is doing many community work like educating poor street children and providing them a sense of belonging who were deprived of the basic rights or feeding the needy who would sleep empty stomach every night. Second day we were at the ufone head office Peco Road, Lahore. A sentry stopped us at the main gate and acquired who you are, we said that we are here to see HR manager Khurram Zarrar for hiring purpose. He said that there isn’t any hiring open these days. We implored him that we only have to hand over our resume and cover letter to HR. He called the manager, he dictated him to get our resume, cover letter and hand him over when he see him. So that was our first try in which we weren’t even able to enter the office. We were pretty sure that the manger was not gonna see our resume even if he got it on his table only by chance. We two had a tea together and get back to our home.

After the first try, we decided to try our luck at Mentor graphics ( Siemens Business partner ). At this time we were much passionate so we did a better research about the company, we even called on their help line to know the name of HR manger. On a call, we asked the receptionist if we can borrow her time for a while during office time, which she gladly granted us. Next day we reach their office, asked the watchman that we have to meet Miss. Humaira. He called her for the confirmation and let us enter with a smile on his face. Finally, we were in the office premises of the Mentor graphics, Miss Humaira was such a jolly person that she said two times in a conversation that “Oh so you two are here for the recruitment”.

She escort us to the Sir Adnan office, we asked him that we are here for applying for Internee Engineer. He was also pleased to see us, He said that he’s happy to know that we are not staying in our homes and wasting our time.He gave us our visiting card. Sir Adnan too was graduated from UET, the same university I did my graduation. After a little conversation he thanked us for coming and said that we’ll consider your concern and will call us for an interview in a week. The main thing that matter in that experience was the gratitude offered by receptionist Miss. Humaire and HR manager Mr. Adnan. This experience made us more passionate and less fearful of meeting an unknown person. Now we had another technique for getting a job.
