Ferrari or Mercedes | A Choice That Will Affect The Future of Lewis Hamilton in F1
In the last few weeks, there's been a fuss in the F1 community that Lewis Hamilton is ending his contract with Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team and is interested in signing a contract with Ferrari for the upcoming seasons of Formula 1 and so on & so forth…
So, Let's see if these rumors are correct or some wild imagination of F1 fans!!!🕵️♂️
Brief Context of the Situation
In 2021, after his 2 years contract with Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 team ended, he signed 1 year of agreement from (2021–22) with them in hopes of fulfilling his dream of becoming an 8th-time F1 World Champion.
However, the 2022 season was the most disastrous season for him and the whole team because of their new W13 car design in which they changed the aerodynamics design of the car and introduced a new side pod concept called “Zero-Sidepod design”... more on this side pod mumbo-jumbo in this story…😉
But for now, let's get back to the main topic
So, due to this new sidepod concept on W13 and car regulations changes by FIA, Mercedes completely went into a downhill spiral of confusion and tension as they failed to understand the car and weren't able to improve its performance that would help the drivers to win races.
Therefore, throughout the season Lewis Hamilton & his teammate George Russel faced many issues with the car and tried their best to perform with it.
However, they weren't able to do so, and in the last race of the 2022 season in Abu Dhabi, Lewis had to resign from the race because of the collision with Sainz due to which he lost the pace and came back to the pits.
Also, before the summer break of the 2022 season, Lewis had to resign from Spa-Francochamp Circuit, Belgium because of the misfortune that happened to him in which Alpine lead driver Fernando Alonzo was in Lewis’s blind spot and the moment he realized that it was too late and they bumped into each other.
So, after all these struggles & DNF’s team wasn’t able to finish second in the constructors which was the wake-up point for the whole team who dominated F1 by winning 7-Consecutive F1 Championship Titles.
So, by keeping all these catastrophes in mind, Lewis decided to do something different that would move closer to his only goal of winning his 8th World Championship Title not away from it.
We get to that part in a bit, but right now let's see if the myth of Lewis joining Ferrari was true or not…
Scuderia Ferrari Deal to Lewis Hamilton
Recently, some F1 Pundits & Journalists crafted a story that Ferrari is in discussion with Lewis Hamilton about joining their team and that Mercedes wasn't able to crack a deal with Lewis.
However, while the negotiations were happening between Lewis & Toto, the Ferrari team sent the proposal to Lewis to join their team but Lewis respectfully declined the proposal.
But, somehow the news of the proposal got leaked and turned into a rumor that created so much hype that Lewis had to dismiss this myth by saying;
I haven't signed anything and I am going in-depth with my contracts with Toto and soon we will sort something out. As I have planned to be here in Formula 1 as a part of this great team [Mercedes] for which I have a lot of work to do
This statement by Hamilton cleared the doubt from everybody’s mind that he is not leaving his team, also, on another occasion in an interview a question related to Lewis’s contract was asked to Toto, and he replied;
There is no other option than Lewis and we are working on the contract and soon we will announce the details of the contract
So, with these statements, the myth of Lewis leaving Mercedes blew away and the fans were relaxed and excited to see the glory days of their champion and their favorite team.
The Negotiations
Now that the rumor is out of the way, let's discuss what's happening in the negotiations and why we haven't heard about any contract details. or why they haven't worked something out?
As we both know what happened in 2022 with Lewis & team, so, keeping all those things in mind he gave the Ultimatum to Mercedes that if they won't able to provide him with a Championship winning car he will not sign anything with them.
Also, Lewis has been in Formula 1 for a long time and he gained so much experience, fame & fan support that now his focus has shifted from being a driver to other things that he was planning to do.
Nowadays, he is producing a film about Formula 1 that is under development in which “Brad Pitt” is playing a main role of a character named “Sonny Hayes” alongside other stars “Damson Idris, Javier Bardem & Kerry Condon” whose roles are not disclosed at the moment, however, this film is being produced with the collaboration of Apple TV+ and soon we might be able to see the trailer or posters of the film next year.
Also, he is planning to make a documentary with Apple TV+ about himself as his mentor or inspiration “Ayrton Senna” made, seeing that made him a Formula 1 fan and ignited his spirit to become a champion like him.
Apart from these endeavors, he is planning to return the favor to Mercedes by staying in the team as an advisor/mentor like Nikki Lauda for keeping the spirit high of both the team and the future generation of drivers.
