Amal Fellowship, Abdul Sattar Edhi and Me
Amal Fellowship is a prestige fellowship that prepares the Pakistani youth to pursue their dreams and to face the job challenges. Its basic principles are Amal, Khudi and Kam Kam Kam.
Abdul Sattar Edhi was a legendary Pakistani humanitarian who founded the Edhi Foundation which operates hospitals, orphanages, homeless shelters and rehab centers all over Pakistan. One of the country’s most respected figures, he is known as “Angel of Mercy” for his selfless service to the abandoned, sick, destitute and the ostracized. He was helped in his life’s work by his wife, Bilquis Edhi, a nurse committed to the same humanitarian values as her husband.
Abdul Sattar Edhi worked on the same principles that are the foundation of Amal Fellowship. He believed in his self. He believed in his Khudi. He took action in his early age by donating one paisa to the needy and the poor. He did not wait to be rich to donate. He just started. He worked hard to establish such a network of ambulance in the Pakistan.
I am a graduate student at University of Agriculture, Faisalabad. I recently joined the Amal Fellowship. . As we all have some dreams to be fulfilled, some goals to be achieved and destinations to be reached, I too have such dreams, goals and destinations. One of my dreams is to go China for my Higher Education. The way to china becomes easy if we know to speak and understand Chinese. So, the first step is to learn Chinese Language. I knew my need of learning Chinese Language but I could not take action. I have procrastinated it for two years. Whenever I decided to start it, some difficulty stopped my way. I was waiting all lights to turn green. I was waiting some divine force to come to me and ask me let us start. But, this never happened and will never happen.
I have recently joined the Amal Fellowship. In one of its sessions, our mentor, Ibrahim Naeem, introduced us to this beautiful and empowering slogan “Just Start”. He asked us to start one activity that we were procrastinating due to any reason. I decided to start learning Chinese Language for the sake of implementation of the slogan “Just Start”. I gathered books and online videos about Chinese language and started learning it in the last week. Believe me, when I started it, it was hard and difficult for me to focus. It was a new language and there was a lot of distractions. As I continued, I do not know from where did the energy come from? It became easy for me to focus and concentrate. I remained sitting for two hours and learned about 40 Chinese words with their meanings and daily usage.
I realized, through this experience, that divine force comes after starting the work not during waiting. Doing creates energy not the waiting does so. Now I approach you, “Just start and let the work create energy.”
