Excellent piece. I for one was totally ‘not a process guy’ and could not understand value of those process Hawks (they are only there to justify their jobs). It remained until I moved up and had to start leading a team of engineers across geo’s (which means across language, cultural, time zone, sensitivities, caliber and ambition boundaries). First time I realized that I can’t be productive unless there is one language to communicate across the entire team. But wait!! Isn’t that language what we refer to as process?
Needless to say, not all process can be defined or justified that way. However as long as we think of it as the common language, it becomes infinitely easier to process.
