FLOODS IN KERALA
As everyone knows that this year a huge problem has arisen in Kerala. several floods have destroyed the lives of many people.many people have become homeless due to this devastating phenomena. It is the toughest part of the lives of people of Kerala.

cause:-
the main cause of this is the heavy monsoon rainfall.it is said that this year the rainfall is 247% more than the normal rainfall in Kerala. due to this heavy rainfall, the dams are filling at a devastating rate. and can’t handle any more water.
That’s why the Kerala authorities have to open most of the dams due to the water filling up to the danger level. 39 dams have reached their limits up to danger limit. from some resources, it has come into our knowledge that, for the first time in the history of Kerala, out of 54 dams 35 has been opened.
From some websites I came to know that Most of the regions affected by this monsoon were classified as ecologically-sensitive zones (ESZs) by the Western Ghats Ecology Expert Panel(Gadgil committee).the committee says that their warnings and directions were being neglected. Chairman of the committee Madhav Gadgil accused the state government and its irresponsible environmental policy for the recent landslides and floods.
it’s not that its the only reason behind this. Recent researches indicate that rising temperatures have led to huge fluctuations in the monsoon winds carrying the moisture from the Arabian Sea, resulting in heavy to extreme rains across the Western Ghats and central India, lasting for two to three days.
Impact:-

So many peoples have died in this disaster. According to a website, the state official told AFP that 370 people have died in this phenomenon. Due to this, there is a scarcity of suitable drinking water. The flooding has affected hundreds of villages, destroyed an estimated 10,000 km (6,200 mi) of roads and thousands of homes have been damaged or destroyed.
Due to this the govt. has canceled the Onam celebrations and the allocated funds have been reallocated to relief efforts. The Cochin international airport suspended all operations until 29 August, due to runway flooding. Many schools have been closed. And many tourist spots in Kerala have been banned due to safety concerns. Also Due to heavy rain and rising water levels, the southern railway has suspended train services on Thiruvananthapuram-Kottayam-Ernakulam and Ernakulam-Shoranur-Palakkad sections. And many more problem is faced by the people of Kerala and the govt, of the state.
Rescue and relief:-

Many rescue operations have been initiated by the govt. to rescue the people in the affected area. And they are trying to provide all kind of support to the suffering people. And Sally Varma of Humane society international took some measures for animals to be rescued and transported to special shelters that housed affected animals. the rescue team is also being told to rescue as many animals as they encounter.
The Govt. of Kerala has also started a website to collect relief help, as “The chief minister’s distress relief fund”. As of 30th August 2018, ₹1,031 crore (US$150 million) was collected from the public including organizations, corporate firms, and famous personalities.
The prime minister of India, respected Narendra Modi Ji announced a relief fund of 500 crores (US$73 million) as interim relief for Kerala on 18 August 2018. This is in addition to 562.45 crores (US$82 million) already made available in SDRF of the State and 100 crores (US$15 million) announced on 12 August 2018 by the Home Minister.
The central government, deployed 40 helicopters, 31 aircraft, 500 boats, 182 rescue teams and 18 medical teams of defense forces, 58 teams of NDRF and 7 companies of the central armed police force. they together saved about 60000 people lives. from all over the world different countries are offering relief fund to help and support the needed.
““we should also start helping them by giving some relief fund to the “chief minister’s distressed relief fund”.More we will help, more we save.””
