An Ode To Battle

Solemn children come to face

Endless hours of a world gone cold

Every morning the same wretched place

Mention battle and watch gray eyes turn gold

Solemn children come to face

A week of t-shirts, tickets, and theme friendly lore

A week of spirit and festivities that I adore

The golden day approaches at rapid pace

Solemn children come to face

As a day of silver begins to take shape

One problem solved, another takes its place

O the dreaded blue tape!

O the anger and spite!

To watch a young girl cry!

What madness! What chaos!

Our leaders, officers, the guiding light

We weather the storm, we truly unite

Under one banner, one number, we fight

No rest for the weary, after the silver night

Solemn children come to face

A golden day, the golden day

Weary faces drifting through space

The real show is hours away

I see friends, tired and restless

I see family, closer than ever

I see memories, that are timeless

I see wonderful people, that I will love forever

The time melts away and battle grows no closer

The minutes grow dreary and I feel my stomach churn

Months of blood, sweat and tears, we are ready

Under the banner of one class, one family, we are ready

Leadership and talent that is unmatched, we are ready

The purge of high school anxiety and stress, I am ready

Solemn children come to face

The glimpse of happiness that defines us

A building of kids ready to scream, a raucous place

O what splendor!

O what joy!

Pressure makes diamonds they say!

Yes I cried, a single tear of pride

If time could pass slower, for all too quickly it is over

Solemn children come to face

That eternal happiness, is not the case

What is left when all is done

Nothing, nothing at all,

Memories of the past,

People of the present,

An uncertain future,

On the morning of March 20th

Hearts will feel empty.
