I don’t know where I’m going

But I like the direction!

Do you try to take too much control of life and situations? If yes, this post is for you! If no, please continue reading this anyways for me, because some effort is gone in writing this original piece ;)

I was always a guy with a plan. During school days, I was my school’s Cultural Secretory. I used to be the man behind every event at school for 2 years. I wanted to be the best C.S. my school had had ever seen. And so, I used to prepare for each event — which meant preparing against Murphy’s law.

This part of me grew as I graduated. And further when I started working. I even reached the point when this happened: I had an important phase coming. For months. So I prepared for it. I made a plan. After the time, I found I was successful in executing it to perfection — the biggest duration till now for a plan by me, to get implemented in a picture perfect style!

I missed the L-word

But something felt wrong, even though I had achieved this feat! I missed out on more “Life” that could have been there. By “Life” I mean uncertainty and spontaneity. I missed out on the fun part where I don’t really have answers, but I try to make the best out of the situation anyways.

During this self-realization time, I happened to read a book titled ReWork. I connected with most of the ideologies mentioned in the book, but what I connected most with was that the author, while thinking over ‘plans’, urged the reader to stop calling them that. Instead she requested to call them: guesses, because they are just that!

So I decided not to plan.

I actually noticed the difference. And it is “Freedom”. You become free from what you should be doing and you enjoy what you want to do. Since that day, I stopped having a 5 year plans, or even 1 year. At max I have a rough idea what I’d love to do for next 6 months. Beyond that, my life is a football game. My choices would depend on the situation then.

Now I don’t want to sound like we’re in Zindagi Na Milegi Doobara (movie) and I’m Farhan Akhtar (the lead). You may have some constraints in your life. And if your situation asks, you should plan, and plan well, and execute with focus. But there comes a point in your life when you can afford to not plan. This post if for that point.

Word of the day: New

Definition: Produced, introduced, or discovered recently or now for the first time; Not existing before.

Let’s start treating the “New Day” for what it actually is. New, by definition, means uncertain. Because sometimes it’s best to not know already :) Cuz if you’d already know what tomorrow is gonna be like, would you be excited to live in it?
