Why do you want to Pretend to be someone you are not?

First things first, I don’t have the answer to the question mentioned as the title. I just want to shed some light or what ever I can, on the matter.

Through out college I got to know, lived and passed by with peers, fellas and dudes whom for most of their time in college pretended to be somebody else, who had regarded their favorite things as dumb. Some of their favorite things included shows to watch, songs to listen, things to do and I guess may be the list goes on ….

The reason they regarded them as dumb is because their social peers considered to be not cool or cliché or a straight ticket out of their group…

And to those who I guess is still continuing to do(pretend) that till today…

what’s your deal?

Have you found what you really like or are you still desperate to be part of a group that can’t just take you as you are and judge you over a song or a show or a taste of a particular subject that you might like?

Why do you do that to yourself?

Lying…

Pretending to be a person you are not.

I have to quote Steve Jobs….

Your time here is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life.

The part of you liking it, is the part that makes you you.

I guess you heard this universal statement…

YOU ARE UNIQUE!!

Yes that’s one of the reason you like it…. may be a part deep down inside of you likes it… may be for a while or just … So why not trying to enjoy it… and live enjoying it while you can, till the moment you realize that it was a reason or for a reason. In some cases the favorites last for a short period, and then we transcend to another one. We find something else, also which might be temporary until we find the next.

Speaking of being yourself… there’s absolutely no problem in not knowing some things…

Be it general stuff or information or answers to simple riddles and all…

It’s not a big deal…

No one is born with answers to all questions no one is equipped with pure intellect.

I have friends who thinks that if they admit they didn’t know something about a particular subject their value or their self image goes down and that people around them will judge them for not knowing about that subject.

So they say this..

I know.

Some with over confidence

Some with tone of shame in their voice.

Some with

look in their faces and eyes wandering from one corner to the other and either head held down or held up looking into my eyes, but unaware that their eyes are just showing the real deal and their face is just a mask at that moment …

Some looking elsewhere but the same thought running in their mind…

It’s okay to not know.

Now I have been around people who judge easily, and also I have to say that I had to frame the preceding sentence in that order because had I written

I have been around judging people…

you as a reader would have come to the understanding that I judge people…

So now you know…

We don’t need to live our lives with acceptance from others; be it family, friends or peers from work, partners. We have every right to live it the way we want to, like what we like, enjoy doing what ever it is;

LIFE; for some it may be a short one, but it’s a journey.
