A Day in the Life of Mr. Ribosome

You all might know me as the candidate for the cell president in 2017 but let me tell you a little bit more about myself and what I do for a living.

My name is Mr. Ribosome. I started life as a simple organelle, a factory worker if you will. I was a free ribosome meaning I was suspended in the cytosol of the cell. I did however have cousins that were bound together and attached to the endoplasmic recticulum. They considered themselves lucky being able to work with the twins or Ms. Rough ER and Ms. Smooth ER as we called them creating and synthesizing proteins for export or to support the membrane or the border guards of the cell community. I however, was made to create proteins that functioned in the cytosol like enzymes and what not.

I found this to be a great honor and better because I was not attached to anyone and could control my actions under my boss of course.

Speaking of boss, I begin my day by getting fresh mRNA straight from the Madame Nucleus’ DNA. I run the mRNA through me matching it up with my tRNA and producing the correct amino acid for the specific protein. I then send the chain of amino acids or peptide down to Ms. Rough ER for further processing.

I am proud to be an organelle of the cell and take part or rather the main part in creating proteins that ultimately help the cell speed up their functions or breaking down of substrates within them or other uses.

I may not be the nucleus with her vast amount of DNA which basically defines us but let’s face it she is not our leader but our god. We need a leader and since I am the one who starts the process of protein production and does the most important job by creating the amino acids, I feel like I would make a great president! In short, all I want to do is make the cell great again!!!
