We are Not Going Back

We are not going back to the days of old

Where women had no rights

Where mothers died giving birth

Our daughters deserve better

Then to be some kind of play toy

And end up dead on a birthing table

We are not going back to the days od old

Where men were taught to be rigid

To suppress all their emotions

Our sons deserve better

Than to end up with a riffle in one hand

And a manifesto of hate in the other

We are not going back to the days of old

When bullies reigned in the courtyards

And rained blows on those different

Our children deserve better

Than to hide under their desks in school

Praying a bullet will not end their lives

We are not going back to the days of old

Where people of different hues

Used different water fountains

Our minority communities deserve better

Than to end up shot in the head

For calling the police for help

We are not going back to the days of old

Where those that were different

Lived in the closet of their minds

Our LGBTQIA+ community deserves better

Than to end up on a slave in a morgue

Life snuffed by their own hands

We are not going back to the days of old

We are not going back to the days of segregation

We are not going back to the days of hiding

We are not going back to the days of hangers and dark alleys

We are not going back to the days of lynchings

Heck we are not going back to even yesterday!

We are going forward, towards Progress!

We are going forward, towards Equality!

We are going forward, towards Justice!

We are going forward, towards Freedom!

We are going forward, with HOPE!
