Keeping calm and carrying the #$%^ on
Developing a routine when you have broken the chains of a 9-5. Might be doing it completely wrong.
Day two. I’m still un my underpants and I am still figuring out how the next few months is going to unfold. This perhaps compounded now by the sms notification that my final paycheque has just arrived in my account… Balls.
I am a big fan of routine, I feel if you have no structure in your day-to-day life especially when work is involved it can be very difficult to benchmark yourself going forward. When you have a 9-5 this isn’t so hard; wake up, cry, have some coffee, cry, brush your teeth while contemplating throwing yourself off your balcony, drive to work, get through day, home, gym… you get the point. Finding yourself without that you begin to get concerned that you will spend your days in your underpants writing blogposts in bed at ten thirty on a Wednesday morning.
In light of the above and the genuine fear that I will be forgotten about and found weeks later with no pulse, flys hovering above my corpse, and inevitably, in my underpants, I am going to try develop a routine. And I would like it to go something like this:
0715 Wake up (having girlfriend kick you in the lower back helps with this)
0730 Coffee & news (this much I imagine is achievable)
0800 Gym/Exercise (you can see where the concern might be arriving now)
0930 Breakfast (again, not the most challenging part of the day)
1000 Sit down AT DESK and NOT IN UNDERPANTS to work
1300 Lunch
1330 Sit down AT DESK and NOT IN UNDERPANTS to work
1600 Gym/Exercise
1730 Sit down AT DESK and NOT IN UNDERPANTS to work
1830 Return to underpants for dinner
Other than the morning exercise session I see no reason why that should not be achievable. The only reason I would like to do the earlier session is because a friend had told me that “it’s nice to get some exercise in in the morning. Makes you feel like you have achieved something and motivates you for the rest of the day,” done, seems like a sensible thing.
Anyone else that has been working from home or has managed to break themselves from the 9-5 let me know how you structure your day.
