The End of Empathy

Your brother’s death is a tragedy for your family and his friends, and anyone who hurls abuse such as you received is forgetting that tragedies will happen to everyone. At the very least, everyone dies. “Empathy” is the keyword, and the villain, to some extent at least, is the internet’s encouragement to say whatever comes off the top of your head. Almost everyone finds the top of their head popping off cruel, heartless thoughts now and then. Let’s hope that more and more people realize it’s best to hold those back, put them on a leash, and think about how they would affect the person receiving them. And in this case, let’s ask our insurance companies why they won’t pay for children’s hearing aids. My wife and I share your feelings and send our sympathy, and we admire your guts.
