The May purchase of Itron’s Greenwood, South Carolina facility by an investment group headed by Blackstreet Capital is the second time the Maryland private equity firm has rescued a local company from the brink of closure.
In a deal supported by the mayor and members of the Greenwood City Council, Blackstreet Capital purchased the assets Park Seed Company during a bankruptcy proceeding, investing millions of dollars in the company along with a commitment, and since fulfilled, to sustain current operations and preserve more than 150 local positions.
When Itron announced the closure of its Greenwood plant, which manufactures the world-renowned Neptune flow meters, local officials immediately contacted Blackstreet Capital. The result, seven months later, was the plant’s sale to Red Seal Measurement — backed by Blackstreet Capital — preserving the more than 50 local jobs. …
March 5, 2020 - The Guns N Hoses Hockey Weekend with the Maryland Black Bears will be held March 7 at the ice arena in Odenton. The Maryland Black Bears will be playing the Johnstown Tomahawks in a two-game home series while showing support to the Anne Arundel County Police Department and the County Fire Department.

Its chief executive officer Murry Gunty is a lifelong hockey fan who founded Black Bear based on combining his turnaround experience with his passion for the game of hockey. Black Bear’s goal is to save older rinks by investing capital to bring their facilities up to modern standards and provide programming for its hockey and figure skating communities.
An affiliate of Black Bear Sports Group, Inc. has acquired the Igloo in Mt. Laurel Township, NJ. The Arena houses two NHL-size ice sheets, an athletic training gym, and is home to the Igloo Jaguars Youth Hockey Club and local high school, college and recreational hockey programs. Black Bear was founded by Murry Gunty in 2015.
