Now that’s a US viewpoint! I rather like “monopolistic state-run” schools and “monopolistic state-run” health. We could probably use a few more of those things to ensure everyone has access to necessary services.
They weren’t that short-term. They only ended up short-term for some because the military-industrial complex needed more workers to supply arms for WWII. My grandfather worked under these circumstances and I remember the stories (which is of course anecdotal, but some place to start).
I agree with this, but from a different perspective. UBI would cause us to continue consuming more than this planet can bear. It would maintain environmentally devastating behaviour.
