All The Genius Titles Are Flags Atop Block

I come up with smart titles and then something will paralyse me, whether that be the consideration of how wise it is to attack someone in a country where I am a visitor, or whether tackling a certain topic is wise given my racial make-up.
Getting misunderstood is easy in a written format — I find that my intent is often lost on the audience the piece is written for, and that a very literal interpretation is opted for. This failure in communication obviously lies with me, but also is created partially by the feedback from the echo chamber. How many people are writing to or reading people that don’t satisfy their own confirmation bias?
I read a lot of articles about the presumption of white males in regards to culture, and there being an expectation of being listened to, and I don’t see that in myself. In fact I don’t see it in a lot of people I know — I see the same insecurities present across the spectrum of people I know; whether the source is the same is going to determine the supposed validity of their inability, obviously.
Caucasian is a word I wouldn’t ever use, but am forced to here in the States. It’s was strange to me that Cisgender was necessary as a term given that the term heterosexual was actually a definition arrived at after the word homosexual was created, to denote straight people, but then I educated myself on the difference between gender and sexual orientation. Being a white heterosexual male is, if you believe everything that is being pushed at the moment — entirely irrelevant; entirely evil; existentially one of the worst predicaments you can find yourself in. Sure, you are liberated by white privilege, but what do you have to say that anyone wants to listen to? Just look at all the damage you and your kind have done. Sure, I know this sounds defensive and glib, but it strikes me that some of the attacks are glib too, and very rarely offer solutions; instead offering another analysis of why it came to be.
As a British guy I feel a little disconnected from the mind sets that created and perpetuate the racial situation here in the states, but I am in it, and therefore have to come to terms with it and get a grip. Gender issues are something one obviously has to deal with irrespective of nationality.
Enumerating the number of friends that you have that fall into minority categories as a defense of your tenuous position seems more than pointless — it’s crass and exploitative. Listing out the qualities that you have which handle your position in relation to problematic white males demonstrates you are missing the point.
So where do you go from there? From where? Have you actually determined where you are? The weird thing is that this is entirely a generational problem as far as I can see — older white males just take the attitude that all the political correctness is bullshit, and that they are in power for a God-given reason, and that all this worrying and posturing over the rights of minorities is the result of our status as snowflakes. I can’t get behind that — I have always been fairly progressive, and I think my outlook and my world has been better for it. I hate racism, hate sexism, but even the position of ally is being stripped of its validity. There are no positions from which you can show you support as a white male. Don’t mistake this as a demand for a vote of sympathy, but this is problematic. It is is a shared world that we live in, and we need diverse voices and strengths to save it from the people who would have us all at each others throats. There were white males involved in the civil rights movement, and their have been straight champions of gay rights. Human rights are important to white cis-hetero males too.
It’s been hard at certain points not to be driven down into apathy, but at the end of the day I can’t stop caring, and the fact that I get told I communicate well about these kinds of things, makes me want to communicate as much as I can. I am willing to be the guy that runs full force at the barrier, knocking myself unconscious, until the thing comes down. There are a lot of people out there, happy to escape categories, and protect and help others as they move towards this same place. We have to keep caring, and we have to ignore any attempt to shut down any kind of communication that adds towards the forward movement into the future. In order to get to the future we have to mobilize, and we need to have each others backs.
