The Earth Mother of the Apatani Tribe

In this myth, the earth was once a human being. The original human was a woman who had beings living on her belly. It occurred to the mother goddess that if she ever got up, everyone would die. By her own will, the mother goddess chooses to sacrifice herself in order to ensure that the humans who resided on her belly would survive. When she passed, her eyes became the moon and sun, her head the mountains, and her bones the smaller hills.
