What is Halloween season with some devils and demons?

Whether they are figures of pure evil or a fallen angel misunderstood, the trickery and free will these characters practice are always entertaining to watch as viewers.

Here I share some of my favorites from streaming series and films.

Demons

The Demon Sartael

The Demon Sartael from the Basque film ‘Errementari’ on Netflix is a unskilled and foolish lesser demon who gets trapped by a human, the same human who was intended to be his prisoner in hell.

Throughout this film you can find yourself laughing at this demon’s demise and later honoring his courage, bravery and sacrifice to save a little girl’s soul from hell.

The Demon Squatterbloat

“There’s one at the door, at the gate to damnation … is it thief, thug or whore? There’s one at the door … and there’s room for one more ’til the end of creation.”

Squatterbloat, in Sandman #4: “A Hope in Hell

This demon seems to solely speak in ominous riddles, which makes him seem more cunning and wicked. He also exhibits sly behavior just as one would expect a demon to.

He demonstrates his devilish behavior as he misguides the dream god Morpheus down a different path through hell to meet the ruler of hell. This path Squatterbloat manipulates Morpheus into taking causes him to run into his first love whom he damned to hell when she refused to marry him.

Crowley

From Supernatural

This demon in the show ‘Supernatural’ is the definition of an A-S-S. Throughout this show you will find yourself conflicted between siding against this demon or siding with his guileful attitude.

From Good Omens

Good omens is a series with satirical take on historical, mythological and religious references rather than “spooky” or related to Halloween. I would still recommend this unique and creative show to everyone I encounter.

The character Crowley in this show depicts the life of a fallen angel and his unique friendship with a devoted angel. From his time in heaven as God’s favorite servant to his hellish bargains on earth, one cannot but help to fall in love and empathize with this devilishly handsome and humorous demon.

He is fluent in sarcasm and his tone is best described as irritated. Both pair well to illustrate his humorous side. As cold as he appears, it is evident how caring, empathetic and sentimental this demon is through his acts of services for others. He is a a character that symbolizes both our shadow and healed self.

Lucifer

From Sandman

When I saw that the character Lucifer in the Netflix series ‘Sandman’ was being played by Gwendoline Christie, I was absolutely thrilled that production decided to go with a more biblically accurate representation of the fallen angel.

“full of wisdom, and perfect in beauty…hou art the anointed cherub that covereth”

-Ezekiel 28:14–16, King James Version

By a “more biblically accurate representation” I mostly mean a Lucifer who resembles the characteristics of a cherub and possesses androgynous features.

Even the way this lord of hell engages in battle is very angelic and differs from the typical violence that Lucifer tends to be attributed with.

From Lucifer

As cheesy as this Netflix show proves itself to be, I still thoroughly enjoyed the biblical references, the police crime drama, and of course the life and journey of the fallen angel adjusting to life on earth in L.A.

Lucifer in this series is committed to being introspective, despite being enticed by his particular devilish ways. Anyone who watches this series falls in love with his attempts to interlace humanistic principles with his typical hellish behavior.
