You may not be surprised to learn that most of our planet is covered by water. Because this is a fact that we have been hearing from school life. But today we are not going to talk about the five oceans of the world, but only the Pacific Ocean. You will be surprised at its massiveness.

Friends, the entire world is surrounded by only one ocean, but we are it the way we know it. For our purposes, we have divided it into five parts. Such as the Indian Ocean, Pacific Ocean, Atlantic Ocean, Arctic Ocean, and Southern Ocean. The Pacific Ocean is so gigantic in itself that if we remove them and only talk about the Pacific Ocean, if we drill in the oceans of Peru and Chile, it will come out in the Pacific Ocean near Vietnam and Taiwan on the other side of the world. From one end of the earth to the other, it is called the antipode of the other. It has several antipodes. Although it is just a starting point for knowing the Pacific Ocean,

There are areas in the Pacific Ocean that are so wide that, between Indonesia and Colombia, even the moon can fit. But not only one moon but five moons can be fit, and even after that, many places will remain.

The Pacific Ocean is so big that it is impossible to estimate its size by ship. Because then we see the horizon of the earth. As the earth’s horizon is curved, the sky and the sea are seen in the same line, far away from the sea. A 6-foot-long human can see only up to 5 kilometers. If you want to see further than this, then it becomes necessary to see from a higher place. Meanwhile, if seen from the top of Mount Everest, we can only see up to 370 kilometers. This is just about the mountain; the 400 km above the international space station orbiting around the world makes it impossible to see the Pacific Ocean at the same time. If you do the maximum output of Google Earth, that is, the Pacific Zoomed Ocean from a distance of 63000, it has 95% ocean and 5% land.

That is, even if the globe is turned to one side, we cannot see the entire Pacific Ocean. In terms of area, the Pacific Ocean covers an area of 165,200,000 km2. This place is so massive that even if all regions, including North America, South America, China, Europe, Africa, and Asia, come here, many places will remain. Where the entire combined area becomes 140 crore km2. Even if all our jungles, mountains, deserts, and cities come, so much space will remain that eight more countries like India can fit here. I remember that I am not talking about five oceans, but one ocean.

Now we can compare the Pacific Ocean with other planets. Let us now compete with our neighboring planet, Mars. The total area of Mars is 14.8 million square kilometers. If we compare Mars with the Pacific Ocean, then the entire planet will sink a few hundred feet below the Pacific Ocean.

So far, we have only talked about its surface. Its depth is several times deeper than the water above. The deepest trench found so far is called the Challenger Deep Trench. 11-kilometer-deep trench from the sea, which is considered the deepest part of the Pacific Ocean. But there is not only one trench but three trenches in the Pacific Ocean. Those deeper than 10 km are known as the Tonga Trench, the Philippine Trench, and the Kuril-Kamchatka Trench.

Some Amazing Facts About the Pacific Ocean

  • 509 years ago today, a man named Ferdinand Magellan sailed across the Pacific Ocean. He is the one who gave the name Pacific Ocean, which means peaceful ocean.” However, there are parts of the Pacific Ocean that have very dangerous waves.
  • The Pacific Ocean is getting smaller with every passing moment. The real reason for this is that the tectonic plates are located in the Pacific Ocean. There are many active volcanoes in the Pacific Ocean, due to which the Atlantic Ocean is getting bigger and the Pacific Ocean is getting smaller.
