NaPoWriMo Day 4: To be myself
As I stated earlier today, I got a little bit behind with NaPoWriMo, but with this post I’m all caught up! Here’s day 4’s poem, it’s inspired by the song “Let It Go.” You’ve probably heard of it, it’s from Disney’s Frozen. What’s interesting is I’ve never seen the film and I don’t plan too anytime soon-not because it’s not a good film, it’s because I’ve heard that damn song so much and then all of the bloody parodies it inspired, which is ironic because the song inspired this poem. But that’s not surprising since I’ve been inspired by music to write a poem before. It’s called To be myself, enjoy.
To be myself
Is to renounce
The chains and standards
Society’s placed upon me
To be myself
Is to forge my
Own path through
The bland normal
Regular ones that
Have never appealed
To me
To be myself
Is to let it all go
Not holding back
Any longer, turning
Away and slamming
The door of lives
Picked out by others
Not caring what they
Say
To be myself
Is to brave the
Storm as it rages on,
Telling those who
Want me to be
Perfect so long
The cold never bothered me anyway…
