BACKGROUND
Over the years, human beings have evolved. Technology has made our daily activities a lot easier. We have much to thank modern advancements in technology for. The financial institution isn’t left out. Digital banking has made the ability to access, use and move money via our mobile devices. All these can be achieved in one’s comfort zone effortlessly.

PROVIDUS BANK:
Providus bank is a private financial institution whose mission is to provide customers with unique experience, be their most preferred financial partner and nurture the attainment of their objectives. The company’s targets are businesses, Fin techs and the people. According to DATAPRO, Providus bank has a very good financial strength, business profile and operating performance. The bank launched the app “ProvidusMobile” to help customers access their account very fast and to carry out timely transactions. However, users’ experience on the app has been quite poor, the interface is quite unattractive and it lacks important features like transaction history, fingerprint option for login and transfer, etc.

TIMELINE: 5 days
TOOLS: Figma
OBJECTIVES:
Taking into consideration the company’s mission and their purpose of creating the mobile app, we were challenged to redesign the ProvidusMobile to make;

  • It more user friendly
  • The interface more aesthetically pleasing.
  • To remove some feature and add few new features.
  • Improve the bank search option for transfer.

The features removed are:

  1. 3 onboarding pages was reduced to 1
  2. Cheque
  3. Draft
  4. Icon and location of the option ‘Game and Sport”

The features added are:

1. Organized transaction history

2. Fingerprint option for login and transfer

4. Bank search option

5. Exchange rate page

DESIGN PROCESS: DESIGN THINKING
The challenge was approached with a design thinking process. Design thinking is a human centered approach in solving users’ problems. This approach helps in understanding users better, knowing their pain points and frustrations. Design thinking helps to create innovative solutions.

1. EMPATHIZE:

At this stage, we tried to understand the users better, know their needs, have a better understanding of their view about the app and know their frustrations. This was achieved via user research, app review from Play store and app store and testing of the app by team.
In addition, we also delved into the company’s goal. We checked on top competitors of the app to know their users’ pain points. This enabled us to compare the pain points of users of providus bank to users’ pain points of the selected top banks. This approach gave us insights of what users of these banks need that can be added to ProvidusMobile.
User Research:
An online survey, interviews, and app reviews on play store were done for ProvidusMobile users. An online survey was also done for selected tops banks in Nigeria too.

Result
A total of 20 responses were gotten from the research. 1 response from the interview, 19 from the survey. Other information gotten was from the App review on Play store.

The question asked for the survey and interview were:
How do you feel using your ProvidusMobile App?
Do you trust the information on the ProvidusMobile app?
How likely would you recommend ProvidusMobile to others?
Overall rating on a scale of 1 to 5?
What is your biggest Issue you face while using ProvidusMobile?
If you had the opportunity to remove a feature from the app, what would it be?
What Features will you like to be added to the App?

App Review

2. DEFINE: the data gotten from the research in the empathy stage was formulated into lists of pain points. User persona was generated.

User Pain points:

User Persona:

3. IDEATE AND PROTOTYPE
At this stage, we brainstormed on how to make ProvidusMobile more user friendly. Ideas we concluded on were based on users painpoints. User workflow, paper, low, mid and high fidelity wireframes were designed.

WHAT CHANGED
1. The Onboarding page
We reduced this section from three designs to one design. Not all the pages are necessary and the contents in the pages can be communicated to the users via other means such as announcements, or messages.

2. SIGN UP PAGE
There was a complete redesign of this page. The customer ID in the old design was replaced with account number and some new log in details were added.

3. SIGN IN PAGE
For ease of accessibility, a fingerprint option was added to the new design. With this feature, users can also access their account with their fingerprints. This feature is faster unlike using password/pin and would be very useful in situations where users can’t remember their password / pin and don’t want to go through the process of creating a new password/pin with ‘forget password’.

4. HOMEPAGE AND ITS MENU OVERLAY
A complete redesign of the homepage was done. The new design is more aesthetically pleasing. It has more features. In the Menu overlay, some features were removed and some were added.

5. FINGERPRINT OPTION FOR TRANSFER
This feature was also added for users when making transfers. This makes transactions faster and easier.

6. BANK SEARCH OPTION WHEN TRANSFERRING TO OTHER BANK
Users complaint that they can’t search for banks when transferring to other banks.

7. TRANSACTION HISTORY
An organised transaction history was added because users complaint that the app lacks it. Option to range was also included.

8. EXCHANGE RATE:
The importance of knowing the current exchange rate can’t be overemphasized especially for companies and individuals into trades and investments. This feature stands to educate and make users aware of the current exchange rate values.

CONCLUSION

With the new ProvidusMobile design, the company will be able to achieve its objectives and purpose of creating the app because users needs and wants are met.

THANK YOU
