ANDELA BOOTCAMP JOURNEY STARTS
Coding has never been easy, after all, who said it is was to be a downhill task. Today being the day of the remote boot camp, I look forward to having fun, exciting and equally challenging moments. With the equal troubles of meeting deadlines and solving bugs comes the ultimate need to constantly better yourself, something that has caught me off-guard. Getting to understand about collaboration and seeing remotely done stuff work has been one of my greatest highlights, other highlights have been pushing myself to become better each and every day improving on what I did yesterday and planning on better plans of how I will implement the solutions tomorrow.
In the past year that I have been as a programmer, I haven’t had many instances where I have been required to code to meet deadlines since most of the projects that I have worked on have been personal projects undertaken to better myself in anticipation that I will create something big in the future. I have always looked forward to being one of the best software developers and working with Andela was an opportunity that I would really work not to miss. If the challenges that have been given to us is anything to go by then Andela will be the environment that I have been dreaming to work in.
Andela’s first challenge has been about creating static HTML pages, wireframes and learning how to use version controls and specifically GitHub. Doing HTML pages has not been challenging since I have done them in my previous projects. Wireframes, however, are new and have not done them in any of my projects. I am always that guy who went on to code without having designed how my pages would look like and this has not on gone well most of the times since I always found mistakes on my pages and I had to redesign them. Now after learning the importance of wireframing I will always implement them in my future projects. My biggest challenge today has been using version control. Since my campus days, I have told myself that I will learn to use GitHub something that I have procrastinated until today. In my challenge, I had to make at least five valid commits in git and have friends review it. Looking forward to a more challenging day tomorrow with lots of fun, a lot of code and a ton of bugs.
